Deuteronomy 34: In Writing

Always across
always abyss

Pour myself out
over water, into water
wafting on the waves
waiting for hands
that reach, will not reach

Watch me as I look outward
nothing between us
sky above us.

Do you watch for me?
You will never find me.
As I can never pass
onto dry land.
Let me curl into the clefts

between the waves
listening for your voice
the brush of your breath.
