Genesis 4: In Writing

Silence when he fell
a broken word
more terrible
than Your deafening silence
in the face of my gift

His face was turned
to my earth
his blood flowing rivulets
she swallowed
he was hers
more fully than I have been
she took him as he has been taken
I watched him merge to her embrace

You said you heard his screaming
all I heard was the silence of repudiation
first You
now her
and I wander alone
First born
Last chosen
